Commercial Description:
Uncle Otto’s Weiss Beer. For a beer so refreshing, it’s a very complex, satisfying taste. A special yeast produces esters, compounds that replicate subtle flavors of fruits and spices. This fermentation provides the most critical component of the extremely distinctive flavor. So distinctive, in fact, that trying to describe it leaves one struggling for comparisons; some may find cloves, even banana!

RBSG 2004: Sweet malts with lemon in the aroma. Murky orange with a small white head. Starts and ends lightly sweet, watery texture. Weak tasting.

This pours a bright gold with a little haze and a small white head. There are oranges, flowers and grass in the aroma. This tastes like oranges and yeast. This wheat is not special.

Hmm, spicy hefe. Pours an unfiltered straw color with a decent head that doesn't last very long and leaves no lace. Smells very spicy and inviting. Apple-cinnemon comes to mind, even though I can't spell it. < smirk > Taste is typical wheat with some nice spices going on. Apple and apricot seem to be floating around. Mouthfeel is sharp with a hint of mineral feel there. Very nice for a hefe. Drinkability is good as this is one of the better hefes I've had.

I poured this one out. I guess I'm not fond of German Hefeweizen's. No head. No lacing. Looked almost flat to begin with. It was smooth but had an over-powering banana aroma and flavor.

Ok had heard good things about this beer but never bought it , when I saw it on sale for $4.99 a sixer..to good a price to pass up! Came with a litttle bookmark type thing.."Not your father's wheat beer" well of course not i doubt he ever tatsed one! Anyway on to the beer. Poured into the glass its an attractive cloudy light orange..tiny head that goes fast. For an American "hefe" this aroma is terrific..all the banana, spice and fruitiness..with a nice sour wheat smell..very nice. MM also a nice tasting hefe..all the above with a hint of cloves..slightly bitter finish. Very good on the palate An exceptionally drinkable American style Hefe..excellent in the sun. This has to be the best American shot at the style..the brewer at macTarnahan's is askilled craftsman.

This beer lacks character in my opinion. It poured almost no head with very, very fine sized bubbles. The body was clear with carbonation observed and the hue was gold. The nose consisted of malt, fruity, clove and banana. The flavor was sweet and malty with a smooth mouthfeel. There was no lacing.

lightly hazy orange/golden color..no head retention...fair amount of clove, some banana in the aroma...some yeast too. kind of a thick mouthfeel for a hefe. some yeast in the flavor with banana in the finish.

This brew poured a small sized head of mostly diminishing fine to medium sized bubbles that left behind very little lacing lacing and a hazy light yellow brown colored body with some yeast visibly floating in it. The aroma was mixture of malt clove banana and dough while the mouthfeel was initially tingly then finished smoothly with just a mild bite. The flavor was unexciting with simple notes of malt dough yeast and mild sweetness. As a final note, I found it be just a little on the odd side for a Weiss.
