This poured mostly black with some dark ruby highlights and a thin, quickly diminishing gray/tan head. Not much lacing. The aroma contained light roast, chocolate, and some caramel. The flavor mirrored the aroma. Not bad. The mouthfeel was light to medium-bodied and lightly carbonated. Not the most interesting beer, but still decent. BBB63 (4249), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 5, 2006 Growler Dark Lord Prerelease Party: Nearly opaque with a small frothy beige head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of roasted and slightly burnt malt, hints of bittersweet chocolate and sugar, and a vapor of freeze dried coffee. The taste was mostly sweet with the malt clearly at the forefront and some lingering ripe fruit and coffee based bitter finish. The feel was once again weak and watery. A rather boring bier and balck biers don’t have to be that way. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Very dark, opaque lager with orange highlights and a small, creamy, khaki head. The chocolatey nose provides a small note of coffee. Unfortunately, the flavor and body are almost totally lifeless.... nondescript. Decently balanced, but light-bodied and watery with no carbonation. Finishes thin and tangy. It’s not great beer, but it’s beer... I thank thedm and hotstuff for generously sharing their growler. patrick767 (2037), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2006 Draft - Very dark brown, medium head with a bit of lacing. Aroma was mild and of roasted malt. Flavor was moderate intensity, primarily of roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Body was okay, lightly carbonated. The finish lingered for a little bit with that roast flavor. It could have used a bit more hops balance, but it’s pretty good. Tmoney99 (4767), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Dark brown hue with medium off-white head that diminished slowly. Medium roasted malt aroma with a sweet tone. Medium body. Medium flavor of roasted malt with a small bitter finish. Interesting brew. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 29, 2004 (draft- Indiana brewers fest) Rather nondescript schwarzbier. Clear brown with barely no aroma, sweetish malt but no hops to compliment. Boring. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

Chock full of malt flavors ranging from chocolatey to roasty and hints of peated malts. Long lasting aftertaste is roasty and satisfying. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
