12 oz bottle pours dark amber with bubbly tan head. Aroma dominated by clove with touch of cinnamon and coriander. Decent sweet caramel flavor and touch of bitterness. Leaves a slick buttery squash flavor on the tongue. Decent pumpkin ale.

12oz. Pours a dark amber with a small white head. Aroma is nice pumpkin spice, not the same as every other pumpkin beer thankfully. Just a nice pumpkin pie aroma, don’t know how else to explain it. Flavor is pumpkin, caramel, vanilla. Nice. This is one of the better pumpkin beers I’ve had. Gets points for being different. Not just a spicy bland amber ale like 90% of the others.

9/04/2008: Mad Brewer Boo Beer pours a transparent deep brown color with a medium, foamy tan head. Pumpkin, spice, cinammon, clove, and some sweet caramelized sugars are present in the aroma. This beer is roasty and has a pumpkin pie base with caramelized malts and psice. It is kind of like spice cake with raisins and some roasted ginger added. It has a medium-medium-full body and is quite tasty overall. I would call this a very drinkable and pleasing pumpking ale.

1 pint, 6 fl. oz. bottle (5.7 alc. by vol.) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #17 for this beer.

22 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy dark amber/brown color with a small beige head. The aroma is moderately sweet pumpkin with nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar. The flavor is centered around moderately sweet pumpkin with a nice blend of spices (nutmeg, others) and cinnamon. A slight bitterness in the finish. This was my first experience with this brewer and for a pumpkin beer I found it to be a positive one.

22oz bottle. Nutty looking Bombay Mahogany color with a light head. Very spicy aroma with clove. Very perfume like. Clove is very noticeable in the flavor and I think there might be a bit much spice as the brew is kind of astringently bitter. Not sure I get any molasses flavor (maybe in a burnt sugar sort of way) but I was thinking more along the lines of ginger and cinnamon. Light sweetness is over powered by the spice and bitterness. Wet mouth feel with bitter finish. Not great, but still drinkable.

22 oz bottle

Overall I think Mad Brewer has done a great job of setting themselves up as a respectable local brewery. Whenever I get the chance to pick up a new release I always give it serious consideration over national releases. This particular beer is not one of their best; in this season’s crop of pumpkin ales I would place it firmly in the middle. Better than another local offering (Thirsty Dog) it falls short of being worth a second look nonetheless.

Aroma / Appearance - A deep burgandy body is graced by a huge head which takes a few minutes to settle down. Nutmeg, spices, and ripe pumpkin are what you would expect to find and you do. It reminds me of a pie before the whipped cream has been swirled on.

Flavor / Palate - Squash and spices were not exactly what I had in mind when I bought the bottle. The nutmeg isn’t so bad but the slight vegetal flaw knocks this down a few points. The odd finish doesn’t help either. In the end I feel like this is a good step towards improving on it next year; as long as progress is made eventually something solid will be sold in a few years time. In the meantime save your money.

Thanks to Ja Bier for sharing a bottle. The beer pours a lightly hazed brownish-amber color with a thin beige head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Malty aroma with notes of brown sugar. Medium-bodied with a flavor reminiscent of apple butter. Notes of malt and spices behind the fruityness. The finish is sweet and fruity with bits of brown sugar and pumpkin left behind. Pretty good all around.

Thanks go to Nathan for the bottle! Poured much darker than anticipated.. deep cherry pit colored with just a dusting of tan head when you agitate it. The aroma picked up deep, slightly sour pumpkin meat, nutmeg, and cinnamon with a bit of maple syrup if you dig really deep. The flavor amped up the spices and the sourness at the expense of some pumpkin meat.. the molasses showed up at the core.. cinnamon and cloves were the primary spices around.. finished sour with the pie spices. Medium-bodied with not too great balance between the slow-moving molasses sweetness and the brighter spices and sourness.. somewhat refreshing at the finish.. OK stuff.
