Tmoney99 (3819), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2008 Draft sample at the brewpub. Poured clear dark brown color with an average creamy light brown head that was mostky lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted malty and bubblegum aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Solid sweet malty flavor with an average smooth bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
miketd (461), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. pour is dark brown with a pretty small head. Aroma of caramel and dark malt. I’m not doing it justice, but it was very nice. Flavor was roasty malt and caramel/chocolate. Nice body and highly drinkable. JaBier (239), Capital City, Ohio, USA Oct 11, 2008 Sample from 22oz bottle at the Brewkeeper tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 10/9/08. Color is dark, dark brown. I’ve only had one other doppelbock that’s this dark in color and it’s one of the best, so I’m cautiously optimistic. Aroma is typical for the style: malty and caramelly with a slight hint of alcohol. Flavor up front is very sweet, almost too much so. Finish makes up for it; roasty, mixed with some nutty flavor. Mouthfeel is perfect for a bock, but a bit thin for a doppel. Overall a decent beer though. BeerVirgin72 (646), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle sampled at Blacklick Wine and Spirits Tasting held on 10-9-08. I rated lower on appearance as all these samples were out of plastic cups. I like dopplebocks alot. Aroma of sweet malts with a hint of chocolate. Flavor was sweet and thick up front, molasses for sure, but the finish had a bit of coffee in it, which made this not seem quite like a dopplebock to me. Good and unique tho! Moggman (123), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with light brown head. Flavor is surprisingly heavy with molasses and slight hints of coffee. Almost more like a porter, but still a good beer. Sammy (3287), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 23, 2008 Enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub. Dark with a mocha head, lacey. Neutral aroma. Licoricey taste, some mollasses. One of the weaker ones in a fairly good lineup. This is a good style when it works.
