I guess that explains the popularity of the dreaded no-chill method. But despite the DMS, it’s actually fairly enjoyable. Hop aroma seems quite strong from the bottle, but in the glass it’s more obscured by the DMS. In any case it’s an intruiging hop character - coarse but compelling, like a lot of these beers using new local hops. Interesting malt character too - honeycomb and light caramel, but tight and lean. Absolutely no flab. Bit of a weird pineapple ester too. DMS notwithstanding it’s a really tight package, with everything in perfect focus, at a level of precision you don’t really see with Aussie micros. Hard to evaluate numerically, but it lies somewhere ’drinkable’ and ’go get more’ so I guess I score it accordingly.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2009 640ml Bottle. Pours a nice burnished copper with a large beige head that lasts the whole way and leaves lots of lace. Aroma has a generous amount of hops with notes of toffee, apricot, orange, vanilla, brandy and is also slightly woody. Flavour is more fruity than the aroma but with less of a spirit character. Peach, pineapple and banana mix with the other flavours suggested by the nose. Quite smooth mouthfeel, almost creamy, and not too much carbonation. Definitely more like a barley wine than a DIPA, but very enjoyable nonetheless, and like others have mentioned, great value. Recommended. Dervock (183), Emu plains, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 29, 2009 Bottle - Big floral hoopy aroma, hints of citrus and pineapple.big flavours on the hops which overpowered the malt. Only issue I has was a slight metallic aftertaste, I’m not sure if this was just a result of the bitter finish, butI did enjoy the big flavours. Have to agree that the value wasn’t bad would expect to pay almost double for some comparable imports! Muggus69 (566), Sydney, Australia

Firstly, I gotta say I was very happy seeing this in a local bottle ’o, and especially at the price, considering how much other beers of this style attract in this country! And secondly, I should be daunted by the task of getting through quite a large amount of strong beer, but it’s somehow all the more enticing!
The head is tightly packed and beige in colour as he sits proudly atop a somewhat cloudy dirty copper body. He clings on for dear life the entire trip, leaving thick lace in his wake.
Typical AIPA aroma with a slight twist; melon, grass, orange and lemon sherbert and unripe stonefruit hops. Caramel sweetness hangs around in the background along with a hint of spice.
Moderate creamy carbonation, solid malt body that clings on yet lets you know who’s boss with a hint of alcohol dryness.
Hops are upfront and willing to make it personal with a good hit of passionfruit, unripe stonefruit and bitter orange taking form. Throw in some odd woody and grassy notes in the works before encountering a burnt toffee malt base. Finish is highly bitter and lingers with a minerally note for a good while, maybe not as much as some. Alcohol is well hidden on the whole.
Very well made DIPA by these guys. Packed full of flavour and certainly tasty, though probably not as clean and brutally hoppy as others. Bloody nice overall! jonno (600), Brisbane, Australia

Definately a DIPA. Solid to really good in all respects. At $8 a bomber it’s good value too (compared to prices I’ve been paying in Japan) Dredd (496), Ormond, Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 24, 2009 Great DIPA that is a nice sipper but doesn’t make you grimace as your glass empties (Beast??). The aroma is a nice mix of tropical fruit and malt. Flavour is a nice mix of sweet malt mixed with big mix of estery tropical fruits, stone fruits and finishes with a great nice long bitterness. Description wise, this sounds like any DIPA, but what makes this so good is the balance between the sweetness of the malt and the bitterness of the hops, mouthfeel is great, nice, rich, round and the alcohol is well and truly hidden. Excellent beer. Stew41 (1054), Caulfield, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 28, 2009 I found this to be mostly an ok, if a little run-of the-mill, DIPA. I’m not smart enough to pick up the DMS thing, but like Sully I do think this beer is a little out kilter, balance-wise. Big load of fruity hops to smell, bodes well, but the palate showed a slightly clumsy hop sweetness that fell abruptly into a bitter wall. Coarse maybe. Still, not shy and packs a punch, and of course much better that most of the other MS beers. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Updated: Jul 8, 2009Like Mullet I have had a number of these. I must be out of pocket to at least the tune of $60 to $70 so I can speak with some authority, notwithstanding poverty. I don’t detect any document management system but there does seem to be a little bit of cabbage juice spillage amongst these files. But just a little DMS. My gripe is the rawness of the hopping and imbalance with the malt, and the ambitious description of this being a cross between IPA and barleywine. Kudos for the madbrewers for attempting this of course but it all is a bit unbalanced for my liking. Esters,, hop nose etc etc but not well integrated into a fine beer that we would have hoped for Chuck’s special quinella.
