| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 20, 2009 Thanks Hayduke! This beer pours a dark murky brown with a nice thick head that is light tan. Good retention. Aroma is funk and yeast. Flavor is big and biting. This is a well hopped beer offering tart citrus fruit, pine, and caramel. It also has a sweet side that shows up more with warmer temperature. There is plenty of fruit and earthiness to go around. Funkiness to match. A fine beer that kept my taste buds on their toes. Aroma is full of caramel notes from the malts. Flavor is full of a lighter caramel flavor with a nice alcohol bit and a slight bit of piney hops. Alcohol bite at the end a bit strong. alexsdad06 (1096), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 11, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy deep copper color with a large fluffy beige head (some larger floaties were present). The aroma was moderately sweet with caramel and buttery toffee dominating. Some subtle hints of citrus round out the nose. The flavor is caramel malt and some citrus up front, but is more earthy and bitter in the finish. The bitterness lingers on the palate for some time. Somewhat dry at the end. I think this is only slightly better than the RB average, perhaps another look at a later date.
Rating # 50 for this beer. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Bottle sampled on 7/26/09: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a stringy-lacing light beige head. Aroma of grainy sweet dark caramel malts and a touch of grassy citrusy hops. Starts with good fullness and light caramely sweetness with a touch of grapefruity hops before a toasty bittersweet finish. An ok imperial red but could use a little more complexity and hop character. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm Hazy amber color. Caramel aroma, sweet, malty and a bit yeasty; lightly grassy too. Medium body; caramel aroma, leaning to the dry side, not very interesting; but the hopping is a bit fruity and improves the flavor; the final shows some toffee and light residual sweetness. Good, but not impressive. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Pours up deep slightly murky amber with full tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is rich malts and crushed nuttiness to go along with a thin ring of pine, grassy and spicy hops. The taste brings in spicy and pine hops along the edges of the tongue and at the same time sweet malts, tasty nuttiness and Stone Arrogant Bastard like crystal malts across the middle. Actually it taste similar to ABA only a bit less chewy and bold. Toward midway the hops build in modest bitterness as a dash of earthiness joins in and takes the experience into the finish.
