The taste is fine if not spectacular. It’s nothing to get overly excited about, but certainly not bad. A solid, decent beer. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2006 Pours light red with an almost non-existent head. Aroma of piney hops and caramel-like malts, somewhat reminiscent of a slightly stale North Coast Red Seal. The sweet malts dominate the flavor, which ends on a lightly hoppy note. Like most Ambers, it’s not bad, but nothing I’d go out of my way for. Very drinkable for the somewhat elevated abv. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 22, 2006 Pours a dark amber/ruby color with a little bit of sediment floating about. Fairly sweet hoppy aroma. Slightly tart hoppiness right up front. Fairly malty with a subdued hop character. Bitter finish. Average amber. eaglefan538 (2363), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 12, 2006 Way overpriced, nothing special at all. Rich and malty with some hops in there after a deep copper color with a decent initial head and ok lacing. Lots of brown sugar in the flavor, some citric sourness, and a touch of hops. Not nearly as balanced as I was expecting, could have used some more bitter notes to balance out the relatively sweet caramel malt base. Mouthfeel was somewhat acidic feeling. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2006 From a stubby twist cap brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date.
Made a decent appearance, poured a hazy rudy brown garnet with a small foamy head that settled into a thin tiny bubbly lacing, very minimal amount of sticking, moderate carbonation.
Had a caramel malty and tropical fruity nose with hints of a earthy breadiness at the edges.
A crisp, textured and smooth medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability.
Caramel malty with a little sugar throw in as well, a rind tropical fruity and spicy, herbal hop bitterness follows, and a dryish caramel and bready finish with a little caramel and herbs lingering in the palate.
A decent amber/red ale from Mad River, well worth trying.

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 24, 2006 This beer didn’t suck. Deep copper with a foamy beige head. Sweet, malty, with more hops essence than expected in an amber ale. Notes of caramel and citrus hops. Medium body and some substance in texture. The flavor was slightly sweet at first with some nice hops bitterness kicking in.
