| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 19, 2005 Draught. Pours dark mahogany-tinged red with a thin off-white head that leaves tight lacing. The aroma is sweet barley and toast. The flavor is more floral hops than malt, much like a pale ale, and has that grapefruit flavor that often comes out in IPAs. Yet the finish is earthy. This is poorly balanced. There is very little harmony of flavors at all. Blah. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2005 On draft at the Federal in Durham, NC. Pours a dark red color with a lasting off-white head. Hops and malt apparent in the aroma with a hint of caramel. Surprisingly hoppy flavor is slightly citrusy and a little flowery. The malt finishes things up nicely. A very enjoyable session beer. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 17, 2005 draught. Pours a blood red with a foamy white head. There’s a spicy aroma on this with a touch of yeasty sweetness. The flavor is a full spectrum of hops with a definite orange taste and a bit of ash. Fairly smooth none-the-less, but maybe a bit too strangely acidic. There’s a hint of caramel hidden in the finish. This is more like a bitter or maybe a pale ale than an amber.
