Commercial Description:
This beer was originally brewed for a famous Reggae festival that happens each year here in Humboldt County. A malty bitter American Amber style ale. This mahogany hued ale brings an intense spectrum of hop flavors from the spicy aromatic to lingering bitter, all underscored by a full- bodied caramel richness. Try this brew with a little Jamaican Jerked Chicken.

12oz bottle-pours a rich retaining tan head that laces and amber color. Aroma is resin/citrus, medium malt-brown sugar. Taste is medium malt-brown sugar, secondary resin/metallic hops, alcohol. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

Mad River Jamaica Red is a very cloudy dark amber ale with a small light beige head that fades but leaves great lacing. It has a strong, sweet, malty aroma with a piny spice. There are notes of candied orange peel and fruit cake in the nose. It is medium-- maybe medium-full bodied. It is soft and smooth with a clean, dry finish. It has a full semi-sweet malty flavor that kind of reminds me of frosted cupcakes. It is well-balanced with a citrus-pine bitterness and it has a resiny flavor. This is kind of like a light barleywine. This is pretty classic. I used to drink a bunch of this back in the day, but I don’t remember it tasting quite like this.

Pours light mahogany into a Shaker. Off-white micro head recedes to coat the surface. Resin and pine aromas. Crisp with sweet caramel and fruit upfront with a lasting sweet resin finish.

DEFINITE flavor of pineapple and for that matter mango right out of the bottle. these flavors mostly subside and you end up sipping a sweet malty brew with a nice spicey and grapefruit hoppy character. body a little slick. yet still a nice stingy carbonation. extra touch of caramel tries to keep it balanced . good beer with a bitter rind finish.

Bottle. Sweet fruity malt aroma. Reddish brown body, small dense off-white head. Flavor is spicy, fruity, lots of malt. Interesting light bitter finish that lasts a while.

[bottle - 12 oz] Ruby red pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is rather hoppy with some good citrus notes. Some grapefruit, honey, and grains. Flavor is very spicy and hoppy at the beginning with a lot of citrus in the middle that blends with some caramel malts and ends with a touch spicy and peppery hops. Aftertaste is bitter and spicy and lingers for a bit.

The Dan Journal No.248. Tasted 11/10/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a reddish golden hue. Trace ring of off-white head. Aromas of honey and rye. Medium bodied with a busy palate. Rolling palate goes from sweet to bitter. Tart to sugary. Fruity with apple orange and grapefruit notes. Odd palte roll, but interesting.
