Commercial Description:
This is the second offering in our JAMAICA line of ales. We didn't want to make another IPA like everybody else so we opted for our own style. Unfortunately the gang at the BATF wouldn't let us use "West Indies" on the label stating that there is no such place. We all thought that Columbus was looking for the West Indies and ended up here by mistake. Oh well. We call this beer Jamaica Sunset because of its golden reddish hue. We use five different hops for aroma, bitterness and floral character. You get a crisp clean flavor and complex hop finish.

Bottle courtesy of kp. Pours a very hazy orange-amber with tiny floaties and an average size creamy white head. Nice resiny hop aroma (pine & citrus), quite fruity and with some caramel malt. Flavour’s simple but enjoyable, with citrus hops backed by sweet malt, pepper and an average bitter finish. Mediume bodied. Pretty good, I’d buy this if it were available here.

Bottle: Poured a light brown color with a small white head. The aroma was a hoppy citrus. The flavor was easy drinking, floral hops and a smooth aftertaste. A lot like their Amber with more hops. Overall, tasty.

Aroma is not so strong, flavor is a nice, floral, hoppy palate with a cleansing bitter aftertaste that fades to something slightly woody. Pours amber with white head. Average, run of the mill IPA.

Bottle. Almost did not buy it because of the label. Thick white lasting head. Cloudy dark gold or dirty amber with many tiny particles. Strong earthy hop aroma. Earthy spicy hop flavour. Strong and tasty. Thick mouth feel.

nice sweet citrus hop aroma .... smooth light and sweet taste .... a little bit of cardboard and a light bitterness ... easy drinking with the hops in the finish ... OK, but not outstanding ... very safe and drinkable IPA

3/2/08 On draught at the Crab Pot, Bellevue,Wa. Aroma is low, with a balance clearly toward the PNW hop aroma (not very grassy), but with a good sweet malt balance. Appearance is hazy gold, with a very well maintained off-white head. Flavor is fairly sweet/sour, and even the sweetness seems to come from hops. Malt character is well integrated with the hops, giving a fairly even flavor comprising both. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a sharp spicy character on the tip of the tongue and a similar spicy finish. Carb feel is a little muted. Overall, fairly good, but could do with a bit more agressiveness.

Pours a hazy brownish yellow with a decent enough cream to offwhite head. The nose sweet with malt and a decent hop spicing. Peppery flowers, not much resin, maybe a hint of alcohol. Lightly fruity. Caramel malt backbone, thin, but there. The mouthfeel is a little hard, maybe too much carbonation, the bubbles seem too large at least. A bit creamy. the flavor is about in line with the nose. Malty sweetness cut by aggressive hops and a splash of alcohol. Caramel malt is forward, along with a hint of toast, but both are relatively weak compared to the peppery to floral to slightly, very slightly, garlicy hops. Maybe not the freshest, but the finish is clean enough in that Cascade SNPA sort of way. Not a bad beer, but not a standout really. Easy drinker. Hint of diacetyl, maybe?
