Pretty tasty. A little more astringent than I like in a Barleywine. Nice hop profile. Lots of malt, with a touch of yeast. Candy sugar and caramel.

Bottle. Warm hazy orange-amber. Lots of bubbles but no head. Sweet and hoppy aroma is caramelly and syrupy with some hop in the background and slightly burnt. Gentle carbonation. Lots of alcohol at the end of the palate fills up the mouth unpleasantly. Not complex. Fairly balanced, though with a sweet entry, hoppy middle, and grain alcohol finish. Some roasted walnut adds nuance. Not my thing.

2008-10-14. Hazy copper body with a smallish khaki head. (3+) Aroma is mild, fairly alcoholic at times, caramel, mild malt. (6+) Similar flavour, sweetish caramel malt, alcohol grows exponentially from start to finish, distractingly so. Medium bodied palate. Starts with promise but ultimately disappoints, just okay. 2007 Vintage Bottle from Mabel’s travels

Bottle at Brother Tuckers. Nice amber pour, small whitish head. Aromas of malt, vanilla, sugar, maple, spices and wood notes. Flavor is sweet, but not cloying. Vanilla, caramel, toffee, brown sugar and is just plain good. Dare I say this is a poor mans Angels Share????

Nothing helps a little congestion like a nice spicy barley wine. Actually, I’m sure actual medicine works fine, but that’s just not as fun. The aroma has notes of candy sugar, ginger, clove, orange, wood and vanilla. The flavor is overpowered by a considerable bite from the alcohol and hops. There are some leafy, wooden, roasted flavors behind the bite, but its not much. I prefer my barley wine’s with a little more mellowed flavor and balance than this. Regardless, its not a complete bust, and is still pretty enjoyable.

Tasted 8/25/08. 12oz bottle. Clear yet sedimented. Dark amber ruby hue. Webbed off-white head. Aromas of caramel and spices. Full bodied with big sticky malts and a bitter alcohol note. Lingering finish. Malt character has nuances of caramel and toffee. Sticky burnt candy. Mild effervescence. and the zest intnesifies as it warms. Malt dominant, followed closely by the alcohol note. Woody toasty malts. Solid and bitter. Big and bold. Money!
