| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2008 12 oz bottle (2007) from bottletrek.com. Pours amber with a hint of red, no head. Not much of an aroma, just some sweet malt and alcohol. Flavor had fruit notes with some spice. Short finish, definite alcohol warming sensation. Overall, unbalanced and rough around the edges. I am going to cellar for a year or more and see what happens then. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Pours hazy copper with a short off-white head. Wood, grass, alcohol, malt, and shoe leather in the nose. Caramel and earth up front with the alcohol taste and warmth near the end. There is a sweet hop taste near the finish that was nice. This was very unbalanced, but still nice to drink. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2008 2007 bottle. Pours hazy ruby red with a modest cream colored head which leaves nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with some apricot, booze, and a touch of sour milk in the back. Balanced, malt forward, fruity flavor with a fairly dry, slightly hot finish. Moderately full bodied with a lovely smooth mouthfeel imparted by moderate, very finely textured carbonation. A touch hot but otherwise a very nice barleywine. wingman333 (248), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Had a six of this a couple years ago and really liked it but I’ve sampled 10-15 other barleywines since then so I thought I’d see how this one held up. It was sweeter than I remember, flavors of honey and dried fruit, buttery somewhat, with a pleasant reddish-gold color. The finish left me feeling a little empty though. Alcohol highly noticed. Not as carbonated as I like. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2008 The color was medium amber. There was light sediment. The head was thin, creamy, and off-white. The aroma was aged fruit, alcohol, and sweet candy-like malt. The flavor was sweet malt, hoppy, waxy, spice, and citirs. The palate was medium-bodied. The finish was waxy. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Pours a thick hazy reddish amber with a one finger creamy tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty, some bubblegum, and some citrus. The flavor is interesting, strong alcohol, malty, some waxy spicy hops, bubblegum, a little offensive. The palate is waxy and hot. illidurit (895), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Pours a crystal clear dark amber color with a tan head. The suds leaves modest lacing but stays around for a while.
Smell is almost nonexistent. Alcohol is the main note, with some faint maltiness.
Taste is much better. Very fresh flavors of caramel malt and a moderate hoppiness that dries the palate.
Carbonation is good, body is a little too thin, alcohol is a bit hot.
