This was at the Peoria Beer Festival. I was a server that got to sample a couple beers. I didn’t take notes like I should have.

Nice ruby red color. A boozy and swoozy kind of brew with a malty and woodsy aroma. The bitterness and booze blots out some of the subtler flavors, but I’m a sucker for barleywines.

Amber color with little head. Strong malty nose. Sweet malty taste with high alcohol. Big hoppy bite at the end.

2008 bottle .. . light meaty molasses in the smell .. wow, pretty rough- needs time or something .. speech speech .. not the most elegant barleywine but simple and drinkable .. this is decent, a good intro into barleys and for the abv, not bad ... . . I’ve done alot of things I’m not proud of, and the rest are disgusting!

Bottle from 2007, drunk here in April 2009. Strong nose dominated by fruity hues, very ripe/overripe, sweet and thick. Grapefruit, pear, peach, grape, yum yum yum! Malt and hops both in spades, some caramel and light booze. Orange-ruby pour with the typical perfect tan head. Dulled, matted taste, still very sweet but with the center sucked out, distinct aromatics are a bit more muddled, light bitterness and faded caramel. Light warming, alcohol isn’t too bad in the beginning but gets annoying quickly. Medium body with a little hop prickling toward the end. Just can’t get excited.

Pours mahogany / brown with a tannish head. The aroma has sweet malt, roasted malt, cream and lots of dark caramel. Medium body with not much to it and some semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts with some dark malt, caramel and light spice. The finish is musty and has some cardboard. Okay.

On draft at bodega. Aroma had a nice hop presense, this must have been pretty fresh. The first taste of this actually reminded me of bigfoot a little bit. It was similar in a hop forward barleywine style. Had a nice color that left some lacing that actually got hard in the sunlight. A pretty tastey beer overall.
