Dark color for a barleywine, with virtually no head even though I chugged it into the glass. Sweet cherry and hop aroma. Very thick, cherry syrup flavor with a stronger than usual hop finish. Not overly complex, but it manages to get most everything I like in a barleywine.

12oz bottle of 2007 from Bottleworks NW. Pours amber with slight white head. Slight hop aroma. Body is rather thick on the tongue, laced with alcohol, not as sweet or hoppy as other barleywines. Like the not sweet part. Finish is smooth.

’07 pours with thin white head. Hops and malt both come through in the nose. At room temp, it’s easy to drink with malt coming through and it finishes with a slight taste of espresso.

Bottle from the Freakin Frog in Las Vegas Nevada. Pours a hazy brown color with a nice white head. Aroma of hops, caramel, malt. Flavor is caramel, malt, fruits, hops.....slightly earthy and very easy drinking.

Bottle ’07: Pours a light amber color with a medium, dense sandy colored head. Thick lacing. Aroma is strong; citrus and malty sweet notes. A little candied fruit. Tastes strong of maltiness, lightly bready, and lighter in the citrus/fruity area. Has a bit of a wheaty feel too. Some caramel. Nice and warming.

Bottle from Orlando’s Knightly Spirits, the ultimate beer cache. Pours a minimal but delicious-looking tan head with a strong, boozy caramel aroma that stings the nostrils. Flavors include big, biiiig caramel, slight resinous hops, toffee, very whiskey-like oak barrel overtones throughout, vanilla, shucked corn, and oats. Full, rounded mouthfeel and a stronger carbonation than normal for the style. Not the easiest to drink, but still a good barleywine.
