| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 15, 2009 bottle - Pours near black with a thin light tan head that leaves some lacing. There’s a roast malt aroma with some chocolate. The flavor is much the same. It’s medium bodied with a bubbly mouthfeel. Alcohol taste is minimal. It’s decent, but didn’t overly impress me. bb (2941), Martinez, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 10, 2009 Bottle. Mocha-like Porter notes. Pitchy pour with tiny-bubbled, frothy beige head. Taste is mostly dry with caramel and very faint hops and the slightest hint of roast. Inky creaminess with deep, dark waves of chocolate. Medium-fullish body with a long finish. Alcohol pretty well disguised. An aptly named Black Beer - kommt grad vom Tintenfass. Unibonger (72), Mount Shasta, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 5, 2009 Malty aroma with a touch of alcohol. Pours very dark with a thin, short lasting head. Its not got the deepest flavor for the percent, and the hops are noticeable but do not overpower the malt with lingering sweetness. Its not very alcoholic tasting for the percent as some beers can be. Has a low level of carbonation. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Single bottle purchased at Friendly Mini Mart in Lakewood. Odd thing that it made it all the way to Lakewood with only 32 ratings on the way. The aroma of this is a rather nice roasted malt with a little bit of sweetness. The flavor is rather simple for an American strong ale, not the shabbiest of malt flavor but rather thin, like a cheap cup of coffee or a soda. That does lend to this being very drinkable, it would make a good session brew. Snojerk321 (2027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2009 12oz bottle from South Bay Drugs. Pours a deep coffee brown with a small beige head. Nose is coffee, toasted malts, bitter chocolate, and light hops. Flavor malty, chocolaty, light coffee and a hint of booze. Not bad.
