Fair amount of carbonation. Reminded me of root beer once it was poured into my glass. Roasty malt flavor with a backbone of alcohol. Roastyness lasts in palate for a bit after drinking. Not necessarily something I’m going to search out, but still enjoyed it nonetheless.

Tasted during the Nor Cal Beer Geek Tasting on 3/11/2009. This ASA pours a deep black color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is roasted malt, a touch of chocolate and some hops. A medium bodied Strong Ale. The malts are roasty and dark. The hops are spicy and floral. Nice carbonation. Nice chocolate flavors. It reminds me of a schwartzbier on steroids. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours dark brown with amber edges and tan head. The modest aroma has roasted malts mixing with a bit of dark fruitiness and more malts. The taste is big and malty starting with both malty sweetness and several layers of robust roasty malts. After a moment of roasty malt contemplation notes of caramel and molasses come to the surface. It gets thick with malts that grow even stronger into the finish with an assist from burnt maltiness. One malty brew.

Bottle from Sam’s. Lovely pour. Dark brown, almost black with a light grey/tan head. Trying to figure this one out... nose is confusing at first. Some chocolaty malts and definite hops and maybe some spice... competing with each other instead of playing nice... let me sit on this beer for awhile and come back... okay, okay, as this puppy warms up it makes a lot more sense. More caramel/chocolate, but some dark fruits as well. Also some graininess and a remarkably dry finish. Points for uniqueness. Solid.

Thanks to Redlight for sharing this. Pours a dark brown, almost black, color. Both the aroma and flavor are fairly light, with toasted malts and caramel. Not a bad beer, but nothing amazing about it.

Looks like cola. Very light brown head with some lacing. A little coffee and some malt in the aroma. Sweet, malty, some chocolate, some coffee. I think this bordes on a mild porter other than this high alcohol, which is fairly hidden.

Bottle, courtesy Ibrew2or3. Grayish brownish black pour, wet braids of lacing, minimal head, very frothy. Spices in the nose, coffee, bitter, some cocoa. Sweet flavors, very malty, creamy chocolate, and tons of dry oats. Pretty flavorful, not too crazy and drinkable.
