urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Nov 9, 2009 This has the same honeyed malt character you find in Anderson Valley Pal Ale and IPA. Thick and malty, really chewy, for the style. Hops are there in abundance, but it was the malt that was most memorable. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy orange hue with a whispy layer of spotty head. Nose is modest citrus hops with bready malts and slight alcohol. Flavor is surprisingly thick with bread-grain malt, modest hop bitterness and citrus-to-pine hop flavor dominate in the middle, slight grassy tones, finishes slightly sweet with alcohol warmth. Medium-full body, thick texture, modest carbonation. A balanced DIPA that is full and malty, hops are there but not at the typical DIPA level. beernovice39 (240), South Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2009 I like this stuff! Cloudy orange pour, nice hoppy smell. Sharp crisp flavor. ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 6, 2009 2009 Bottle - Pours a translucent orange with a medium off white head...aroma is massive citrus zest, slight grain and sticky malt...flavour is fairly straightforward, grapefruit and pine, with some biscuity thickness to back it up with something substantial...well balanced, toffee malt keeps it from being one dimensional...pretty tasty... carruthm (1111), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 21, 2009 tap at fremont oktoberfest. Pretty standard IPA in the hoppiness category, slightly cloudy orange color dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Sep 20, 2009 hazy orange color, medium off white head, some lace. nose of citric hops and sweet malt and caramel. flavor begins sweet malty and creamy and turns citric and pine bitter pretty quickly. medium bodied, citric bitterness in the finish. a decent enough brew, very tasty, but i don’t see what makes it a double ipa. bottle provided by cornfield. tongatim (19), Bellingham, Washington, USA Sep 12, 2009 Fresh just bottled, courtesy of Sonny, the brewer, who gave us homebrewers an impromptu tour and tasting when we showed up after-hours after driving from Washington State on a brew tour. Fine citrusy hoppiness balancing the smooth alcohol assault of this formidable brew. Left me wanting another one. And my wish was granted. Thanks. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottled. Gushed all the fuck over the place, which always pisses me off. After a few months (undeliberately) aging this has mellowed quite nicely; a big cookie character underscores the PNW and euro hop mix, with some gentle liquor notes. Big body with rich malt, while having a nice lemony, piney balance. Very drinkable. More of a imperial amber type beer at this point, but I like it.
