Jul 26, 2008 bottle. Pours a hazy apricot color with a fairly large fluffy head. Aroma is of citrus, hops, some orange. Flavor is initially of flower and pine, and the mid palate also forwards some smoke and pine flavors. Finishes a touch thin for a Double IPA. Overall, good combination of flavors, but perhaps a bit underwhelming.

Jul 25, 2008 Bottled. Probably a great place to start with IIPA’s. All the typical characteristics but not overpowering at any point. Nice level of bittereness to get the point across but not palate crushing. Didn’t really notice the 8.6 ABV till the warming finish.

Jul 19, 2008 Bottle. Hazy amber pour, small white head, with a decent floral and pine aroma and light malt. Lasting smooth bitterness with a hint of alcohol. Not a bad double.

Jul 14, 2008 Orange sunrise with heavy, slow, but steady rising carbonation feeding an adequate head. Nice, easy-going citrus hop emphasis with discernable bit of tangerine with perfect malt backbone. Excellent blend of malt and hops with moderated bitterness. Touch of alcohol rounds out the hop flavor punch. This is dangerously drinkable stuff.

Jul 10, 2008 Nice aroma of citrusy floral and piney hops. Slightly cloudy amber orange with a small white head. Big grapefruit and resiny hop flavor backed by sweet pale malts. Huge bitterness in the finish.
Medium body and well carbonated.

Jul 7, 2008 On tap at Milltown, Carrboro. Very clear amber pour, almost still with little carbonation. Smell is big and floral, with some notes of pine and a touch of booze in there. More carbonation in the mouthfeel than expected (given the look), and the hops are pleasant. But the beer is a bit too thin and sticky to rank at the forefront of the style.

Jul 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear copper with a thin white head. Aroma is less hoppy than expected, with some mild malt. Flavor is sweetly malty, citrusy hoppy, and some other fruit is present as well. A fair IIPA. Mouth is sticky. Finish is bitter.

Jul 4, 2008 12oz bottle: Pours a clear copper with a small off white head that quickly vanishes. The aromas are very light for the style. A slight sweet malt is present on the nose. The flavor is non descript. I can’t really distinguish anything of note other than malt sweetness. This could be a bad bottle. The palate is medium to heavy. I’m surprised that I’m not rating this better since the style is my favorites. I hope to rerate with another bottle.
