Commercial Description:
The original Extra Pale Ale, this is the one that started it all. Our first brew was introduced in 1989 in Golden Gate style kegs. We have stayed true to our beginnings and still brew it the way we did back then. A bright golden hued ale with a medium body and a crisp spicy /floral hop character and very mild bitterness. This unfiltered ale has a pleasing mouth feel and remains our most popular brew. This beer goes with everything and every occasion.

Bottle courtesy of fordest. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold with some super tiny floaties and an average size diminishing off-white head. Decent lacing. Pleasant aroma of citrus hops backed by sweet malt and some fruit -- smells nice. Mild flavour (well it is a Pale Ale) of citrus hops, sweet malt, fruit and some grain and a light bitter finish. A touch watery. Average bodied. This is a simple, easy-drinking Pale Ale -- I would gladly down several.

Pours a cloudy golden/amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is very light with citrus hops, caramel, sweet malts, and yeast. Flavor is of caramel and sweet malts up front with citrus hops underneath. Slightly bitter finish but not very much at all for a pale ale. It is also a little watery. Not really that great.

Slightly hazy light oak color with a small non-lasting head. A nice citrus aroma. Taste is more subdued than the aroma, mild bitterness and slight dryness at end. A decent session brew.

Picked up single bottle at John’s Market Place in Portland, OR. Pours a hazy peach/amber brew with a thick creamy off white head. Aroma of sweet floral hops, some orange peel, and some caramel malt. Taste is medium body, some spice, pitted fruit and a sweet hoppy aftertaste. A very smooth and well balanced pale ale.

The aroma has a grapefruit like hop and bread like malts. The appearance is hazy orange gold with a small head and small particles. The flavor is weak but good and very much like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall a nice tasting and easy to drink beer with nothing special to it.

I struggled with how to rate this one in that i liked the unfiltered part and yet I was surprised at the sweetness. I was not looking for an IPA but this does not fit the normal APA style so common on the west coast.

Skunky, green bottle-like aroma with some cannabis and citrus notes. The body is a pale yellow and holds a diminishing white head. Watery hop juice with a kind of rancid grapefruit flavor and a hint of steeped grains/cereal. Pretty blah. I guess in 1989 I would have been a huge fan, but I just want a lot more now than this beer has to offer.

Small white bubbly white head. Descent nose coming of of this one. The most surprising thing about this is the lack of bitterness. It’s hoppy, but more of a floral type sweet hoppiness. Not bad, I just wasn’t expecting this.
