Commercial Description:
A black opaque ale with rich creamy roasted malt character and a very mild hop complement. This beer may look a little scary but take a sip and you'll see why this Extra Stout can convert even lite beer drinkers to Stout lovers. A unique flavor profile that starts with a slight coffee flavor and finishes with a hint of roasty chocolate. Try a pint with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream. This beer is a favorite as a compliment to any dessert or as a hearty breakfast drink.

Bottle. Pours dark black with nice tan head. The aroma is rich, sweet chocolate with a bit of a coffee note, toffee, and some granola bars. The flavor is chocolatey at first, then gets a roasty bitterness. There’s a hint of cherry there for a second, then a prickly acidity takes over. The finish is clean and slightly sweet. Not bad at all.

No need for the extra moniker, but good. Pours a pitch black color with a small brownish head. The aroma is sweet coffee, chocolates, and roasted malts. The flavor is coffee, chocolate, and malts. A great standard stout that I could return to frequently.

Bottle. [Great two day tasting session @ Papsoe] Small creamy brown head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Light notes of berries. Over the palate Nice roasted feel and burned bitterness. Medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation and light thick texture. Moderated sweet and bitter flavor. Roasted malty and bitter chocolate finish. Nice Stout.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours completely opaque, black with a small, light brown head. Vinous, fruity nose with burned malt accents. Medium body with accents of burned malts, a little fruit and vanilla. Vague ashy touches. Dry, malt bitter finish. 120108

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a fully diminished head. Dark roasted malt and with a solid chocolate malt aroma note. Flavour is roasted malt, slight coffee and chocolate malt note in addition. Nice roasted finish of malt and chocolate lasting into the far finish.

Haven’t had this one for a couple of years- used to get it from the Safeway in Arcata, CA (and for $5.99 for 6 at that.) This was the beer that made me a stout lover. A great, small-brew California stout- dark, murky and mysterious but rich and inviting.
