Commercial Description:
A black opaque ale with rich creamy roasted malt character and a very mild hop complement. This beer may look a little scary but take a sip and you'll see why this Extra Stout can convert even lite beer drinkers to Stout lovers. A unique flavor profile that starts with a slight coffee flavor and finishes with a hint of roasty chocolate. Try a pint with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream. This beer is a favorite as a compliment to any dessert or as a hearty breakfast drink.

Much better than I remember this one being. I remembered this as being a weak imitator of the SN Stout. What I found was a lush black beer, deep tan head, elegant aroma of chocolate and slightly burnt coffee. Flavor was of chocolate liquor and espresso, full bodied and sophisticated. Very nice stout.

You could smell chocolate aroma when you get a whiff of this one. Black body with dark tan small head that disipated. Flavor was more of roasted malts and some hops also detected for a good balanced beer. Smooth creamy on the palate with a roasted chocolate aftertaste.

Thanks to Secret Santa. Poured very black, thick, with a huge fizzy brown head. The depth of the caramel and coffee aroma is astounding. There are traces of hops in this nose as well. Wonderful lacing. The taste is bitter coffee chocolate and a small hint of hop pine to end. The bitter after taste is great. The carbonation is a good compliment to the thickness of the mouth feel. This is a very nice stout, why the low ratings?

Darker than coal with a small creamy, light brown, diminishing head. Aroma is rich chocolate. Flavor starts with coffee and cream followed by a little dark chocolate and finishing with a light dry coffee bitterness. Medium body, creamy texture.

Haven’t seen any Mad River in the Minneapolis area, so this was a treat...used to be one of my favorites while going to school at Humboldt State, and there are so many good beers to choose from in that area. Nice dark, syrupy pour. No head retention though. Beautiful soft aroma, chocolate and coffee aroma as well as taste. Careful balance between roasted malts and bittering hops for a nice lasting taste on your palate.

Out of a bottle, thanks OhioDad. A nice roast flavor aroma of coffee and chocolate. Poured a nice dark chocolate with a cocoa thin rich head. The taste was good and full, coffee and chocolate evenly sweet but not overly. Palate was enjoyable and creamy finish clean and dry. My first beer of the day and a good one at that, yummy!!

12oz bottle obtained in a trade with Sregnar35. Thanks Bill - Poured very black not much light makes it through with a nice brown head that dissipates quick. Aroma is of chocolate and cherries.. Quite a sweet smelling stout. Flavor is bitter baking chocolate and a touch of coffee. Nice dry finish with a sweet chocolate aftertaste. On the palate this is nice and creamy with full body and a dry finish. A good solid stout and a fine finish to a session.
