garrison (445), Cin. city, Ohio, USA Nov 19, 2004 From a 2002 bottle - I love stouts, and this is a fine example of the breed... it poured with a sweet, malty aroma and a rapidly diminishing small head of tan foam. This brew has an exceptionally smooth mocha-like taste, and a clean "high palate" finish... thank you, sir, may I have another?

dark brown color with no head. Roasted malt aroma with some dark
fruit notes. Slightly bitter. Dry and bitter roasted malt taste
with some coffee notes. Creamy texture. Full bodied. glennmastrange (488), hobe sound, Florida, USA Dec 18, 2008 Bottle. Moderate malt notes of toasted, dark chocolate and strong coffee, resin for the hops, earth for the yeast and tar in the background. Head is small, fizzy, brown with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is black. Flavor is very slightly sweet and lightly acidic to start and moderately bitter in the finish. Palate is medium to full, watery and has a carbonation between soft and lively. it finishes dry. An okay stout, just a little one dimensional in flavor. RIXbeer (102), USA Nov 28, 2008 dark black/super dark brown with no light penetration. cream colored head. I could smell this from the pour. Prunes, prunes, prunes and a hint of burnt chocolate espresso/coffee with a huge amount of hop-less goodness! One of the best smells I’ve ever had out of an american stout. You can taste the burnt coffee and well, that’s kind of it. There’s really no huge taste that I expected out of a beer with such a huge nose. Feels pretty good like going down with a carbonated and light thickness oil like liquid. Quiet drinkable but I’m disappointed in the flavor. SHould be bolder based on the nose. Still not a bad pick up. I would like this over many stouts! Beershine (1526), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Thick black with dark brown head--nice looking. Chocolatey aroma and flavors with some very solid roastiness. Good one.
