Thought it was something else. Too heavy for the occasion, but still good. nearbeer (1860), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle from a 6 pack purchased at a liquor store near the mall in Woodland, CA. First time I have seen this brew. Not sure how old this stuff is, as they did have a lot of old, winter beers still in the fridge. Aroma is quite sweet with lots of chocolate milky aromas. Some light molasses and light vanilla aromas also make a presence. A light, grainy mustiness also presides here. Mostly transparent dark mahogany colored body with a moderate yellow-tan head consisting of many small bubbles. Adequate lacing. Starts spritzy and metallic before it becomes rich and coffee-like in the middle. Just a hint of sweet chocolate, but tons of roasted and toasted goodness here. Some light peaty scotch notes come in at the end. Has a nice mouthfeel, with the exception of the carbonation, which is overdone. This is not far off from being an outstanding beer. boFNjackson (1318), Portland, Oregon, USA
