Initially this has the aroma of dirty socks with smoke damage from a 5 alarm fire with notes of roasted caramel and citrus. Watery roasted coffee flavor slight bitterness with a bit of a burn but doesn’t last. Roasty malt aftertaste. This Scotch/Porter is an acquired taste, not very drinkable, and I love Scotch ale & Porters I guess just not mated. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Aroma is coffee and roasted malt, taste is true to the porter style with roastiness, coffee, cocoa, and a caramel like sweetness. Nice full body and easy finish with a lingering roasted malt touch. I’m gonna let the next one warm up a bit before drinking. Is this bottle conditioned? I’ve got some sediment here. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Listen, I bought this at Murry’s Wine and Liquor for only 99 cents and the smell of this beer is well worth it. You have to have it sit out a little, so it can warm up. The taste is not that great. Taste of malt, hops, coffee, chocolate and scotch. It has a huge water down flavor. I was so excited to drink this after I smelt it and was let down by the watery taste. So I’m drinking a nearly local beer to me on the east coast, so what?! Poured a black color with tan head; light lacing. Nose of light roast, milky dusty hop and some sweet notes. Average astringency. Dry, acidic and not that appealing. A bit of chalk and more roast as it goes down. I don’t understand the name on this one. chimpscampee (566), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Flying Dog has the only other scottish porter I’ve tried and I do not know if this is a mimic but it is similar and Steelhead is much better, perhaps because it is heavier and leaves out the lemon sourness.
