It turned out to have loads of nice smoky malt characteristics. This beer has some nice complexity! Nothing out of the ordinary, simply well done. It has a nice thick tan head which lasts and lasts and a huge earthy woody aroma as well. Nicely flavoured. fuyajo (225), Portland, Oregon, USA

Pours to a medium head and a dark, dark brown color. Taste is big with coffee and chocolate notes. A slight minerally taste, though. Overall a very good beer; I’d buy it again. Thanks Bill! - Pours very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with a touch of toffee and a hint of smoke. Flavor is roasted malts, some toffee, chocolate and a peat flavor. Nice and creamy on the palate but a shade overcarbonated I think. Quite smoky and robust. A delicious porter! Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2005 Pours a near-black dark brown with a creamy light brown head that does some fancy lacing. The aroma is nicely roasted barly and malts. Some herbal hopping is noticeable and, better yet, a sllight peat smoke aroma as well. The flavor is a smoked and roasted barley along with bitter chocolate, coffee, and a dash of hop bitterness. Nice and creamy, this has a lingering smokey, roasty finish. Good stuff. Nose is hoppy and chocolaty with big coffee notes. Dark roasted malts, hops, coffee, dark bittersweet chocolate and light peatiness make up the whole fo the taste. Body is medium with some creaminess and a lingering bitterness. Finish is more coffee, dark chocolate, hops, light smokiness, roasted malts and smoldering wood notes. Nice!
