Mar 2, 2009 12 ounce single bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville, Florida. Beer pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, perhaps a touch of smoke. Taste is porter goodness with some smoke and a clean finish. Better than expected.

Feb 28, 2009 Transparent brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark malts and licorice. Taste of licorice, roasted malt and light caramel. Finishes off a bit like a scotch ale. A bit low on flavor.

Feb 17, 2009 Very dark red-brown with a tan head. Aroma of Chocolate and Coca-cola and shoe-leather. Buttery mouth. Chocolate, roasted wood and licorice. Not terribly sweet. This beer tastes like a good try, but could use a deeper center - more malt. Slight watery aspect that makes it taste like a good try at an English Porter.

Feb 16, 2009 california beer sent to me in arizona by emacgee from north carolina...
pours hazy... almost murky chocolate-y brown with a creamy khaki tinted tan head.
it has a nice earthy smoky stink followed by aromas of a pleasant mild sourness, chocolate, roast and faint nutty coffee caramel.
that same stink carries over into the flavor along with a neat-o spiciness and a woody kind of funkiness. there are notes of some dark fruit, malty roast, brown sugar and spiciness with a prickly hoppy finish. hops dry out the palate for the smoky coffee aftertaste to shine through.
light to medium bodied with a prickly dry mouth feel and sharp carbonation.

Feb 15, 2009 bottle. Nice brown pou with a fair sized head. Aroma is very nice. Some malt, chocolate, faint smoke and some notes of brown sugar. Flavor has some roasted malt, chocolate, hints of coffee and hops. This is well done. I enjoyed this one.

Jan 11, 2009 Really nice beer with a smoky, gouda cheese rind aroma. Taste is of more smoke but of the peat variety, very earthy and soiled. Good medium mouthfeel not overly substantial though. Smooth smooth operator, could have several, the smoke is not overdone. Thank you mad river. 2008 12oz bottle.
