DYCSoccer17 (2009), Davis, California, USA May 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle from a 6 pack purchased at a liquor store near the mall in Woodland, CA. First time I have seen this brew. Not sure how old this stuff is, as they did have a lot of old, winter beers still in the fridge. Aroma is quite sweet with lots of chocolate milky aromas. Some light molasses and light vanilla aromas also make a presence. A light, grainy mustiness also presides here. Mostly transparent dark mahogany colored body with a moderate yellow-tan head consisting of many small bubbles. Adequate lacing. Starts spritzy and metallic before it becomes rich and coffee-like in the middle. Just a hint of sweet chocolate, but tons of roasted and toasted goodness here. Some light peaty scotch notes come in at the end. Has a nice mouthfeel, with the exception of the carbonation, which is overdone. This is not far off from being an outstanding beer.
PilsnerPeter (1376), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottle: Pours a deep brown topped by a tan film of head. Nice malt presence in the aroma. Creamy cocoa, mild tobacco, nutty/crystal malt notes and toasted graham cracker. Nice mild carbonation on the palate. The flavor is mildly roasted with a smooth & creamy cocoa flavor, as well as very subtle sweet tobacco and chocolate cookies. Smooth, light roast into the finish. A well crafted and nice Porter. puzzl (1715), New York, New York, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle shared be Peter. Awesome aroma, loaded with smoky chocolate, peanut brittle, velvety cinnamon, and a calm roast. The flavor is a let down though, being one dimensional, a bit bland, and very lactic. This is one to sit and smell, no doubt. dpjuart (549), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Nate. Pours black/brown with rimming, foamy head, off-white. Nose is roast, chocolate, sweet caramel, slight astringency, oak and whisky. Taste is a mild astringent bitter with roast and chocolate, mild oak and bourbon, moderate bitter, some more roast and chocolate. Solid beer. A bit astringent, but tasty. elihapa (230), Hawaii, USA Jul 29, 2008 poured from bottle. Appearance is dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma was bold and really enticing, consisting of vanilla, dark chocolate, malt, and some roasts. Flavor was delicious and sweet, of vanilla, perhaps some scotch, chocolate, caramel, and café latte. Finishing flavors lingered, leaving sweet notes of chocolate and cream. I recommend this. Nate (2212), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2008 From bottle. Mild tea aroma, light carbonic gaseousness, a bit of smoke and chocolate. No hops discernable, little bit of smoke. Dark, dark brown-black clear liquid, with thin, light tan head. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Starts with a nice chocolate malt character, light smokiness. Strong tea flavor, with light coffee and nutty bitterness. A bit weak overall, but decent. Carbonic acidity in the finish. Chocolate and roasted grain.
