hopdog (4950), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2006 On tap at the KSBF ’06. Labeled at the tent as ’Organic Black Lager’. Poured a darker brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast and somewhat nutty. Tastes of chocolate, roast, and nuts (just like it smelled). Nothing earth shattering, but drinkable. CaptainCougar (4709), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 5, 2007 Bottle sampled on 3/3/07: Transparent dark mahogany pour has a spotty-lacing off-white head. Toasty, earthy, grainy milk chocolate caramel malty aroma has some earthy hoppiness and slight burnt notes. Body starts with a touch of earthy dark malty sweetness with some bittersweet, almost bready notes toward a balanced earthy, slightly chocolatey finish. muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 17, 2006 12 oz bottle from City Market in Burlington, sampled a bit below cellar temperature from a Zwiec lager glass. Translucent dark caramel with a large, lasting soft brown head, small-bubbled and thickly lacing, looks like a chocolate malt....light cocoa-caramel aroma, some nasty hints of detergent at first rub off fairly quickly but the herbal/woody notes just seem a bit weird....smooth, sweet, grainy body with notes of grape and licorice, chocolaty with chalky dryness towards the finish and a difficult to swallow cottony feeling on the very back end...low carbonation, milky mouthfeel until the finish. Not good. DocLock (4175), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 25, 2006 Bottle from Winter 2006 Feast of Fools variety case. This one pours dark brownish black with a deep ruby brown color through my desk lamp. The head is about 1-finger and off-white. The aroma is roast malt, some figgy fruit, chocolate syrup, and brown sugar. The aroma is a lot like New Holland The Poet. Tastes roasty malty, with a sweet choclate syrupy flavor, some nuts, and some figs. The palate is on the light side, and the complexity isn’t great, but this one is pretty good. goldtwins (3755), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 7, 2007 Poured a very dark brown color with a ruby tint and small off-white head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Earthy and smokey notes mixed in. Light fruits and a hint of chocolate as well. The flavor was dull compared to the aroma. Mild roastiness with some fruit. light bitter finish. Semi-dry.
