yesyouam (401), Fairport, New York, USA Oct 9, 2007 The Autumn Mystery Beer is a cloudy orange ale with turbulent particles and carbonation. The head is steadily fading and off-white. It leaves good lacing. Banana and clove dominate the aroma. Something like lemon pepper is detected. It’s a soft, fruity and fresh aroma. It’s light bodied and a bit watery. The mouth feel is metallic. Slightly sweet at the beginning, the banana is strong in the flavor as well. The bitterness has a tannic edge to it, like lemon zinger that brewed too long. The taste ends with peppercorns, alcohol and possibly curacao. It’s a bit soapy. This is what I’d think a Dubbel would taste like if I never had one before. It’s very young and the flavors are unblended... but it doesn’t seem to have enough body to lend itself to any extended cellaring.
Rciesla (1571), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Dec 25, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Wheres the fruit, lots of malt, lightly sour and tart but not in a good way. A bit of alcohol and some hop character. Eh. machfive55 (109), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2008 I wasn’t all that impressed with this beer. It was really tough to drink for a dubbel and I really like belgian beers in general. There is just something slightly off with this, so maybe I got unlucky and got a bad bottle. I thought it was more on the malty side and there were less fruity notes than I would expect with a dubbel. I big beer for sure, and mostly undrinkable. timsilvia32 (320), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jul 17, 2008 Light brown pour. Pretty aromatic, good amount of carbonation. A little bit of sweetness, toffee, fruit, apple that blends well with the toffee. It don’t remember it calling out the abv, would never have guessed 7.5. Not bad, more of a dark beer fan. nick76 (2180), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2008 The aroma is rather weak for the style. But it does have toffee, caramel, yeast, grains, and fruit. The appearance is deep amber with haze but no head to speak of. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thick. Overall it’s really enjoyable. wcampbell (446), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 28, 2008 Definitely the best beer of the variety pack. Nice, fruity flavor, with some piney hops. Medium to full bodied. Completely hidden alcohol. Lightly bitter finish.
