Holdwine (827), Beertimore, Maryland, USA Mar 23, 2003 Pleasant but not fantastic bitter. It is nice to get a decent bitter on draft in the states. Unfortunately, not as strong as other Magic Hat brews. The hops are handled professionally and really outdistance the malt. Nicely served at room temperature with a lot of bubble activity. omnivore (268), San Jose, California, USA Feb 17, 2003 Magic Hat Beer Tasting, Brighton, MA --This "Experimental Elixir" from Magic hat is made from the second sparging of the malt used to create their barley wine. It's a golden yellow in color with a hoppy aroma that's not displeasing (especially for me, who can sometimes find hops a bit overpowering). The first taste needs to be taken slowly. The hoppy bitterness literally rolls back along your tongue from front to back. You can actually feel it move. It has a quick finish with a light bitter linger. However, there wasn't much else to it besides the bitterness in terms of flavor. For a bitter beer, though, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't exceptional. 3.5% ABV UnionMade (621), Connecticut, USA Oct 21, 2002 Real damn good. As hoppy as Blind Faith, but with added malt. Big body, bitter, bold, beefy. I’d love to see this make it to bottles.
