Pleasant aroma of yeast, malt, and fresh vegetation. Fresh, yeasty taste with hints of flowers and spice. Fizzy but substantial on the palate - a good brew. michaelm18 (118), Boston, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 25, 2005 I must admit that this bottle is old (maybe 7 months) and has been driven across country...through the south...in August. So my hopes were not high.
Pours deep cloudy orange with a tight off-white head. The aroma is heavily esters from the English ale yeast (me thinks Ringwood? Did I hear that somewhere?) with a certain juiciness of fruit aromas, some peach and pineapple, and a large dosing a chewy malt. Diacetyl is in there, just not as noticeable as in some of there beers. Body is med-light. Apricot juicy flavors with a nice complex hop character. Lots of fruity hops. The finish is pleasantly drying and the beer is fairly clean. Not a ton of diacetyl, which I have detected in spades in some of their other beers. Nice English Pale. With a yellow orange color and a slightly sweet aroma, I started to think I wasn't going to get the bitter smackdown I was expecting. And I was right. The attack was delicate and hoppy, the finish broad and malty. The lingering faint hoppyness was VERY plesant. I will drink this again. It was really nice. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

"Expand your View with Things that are New", the cap tells me. Do they have the Cat in the Hat writing these things? Well, this beer is new to me, so I’ll expand away...though I must say I was baffled and prepared for a let-down with the phrase, "a paler shade of pale." I’ve given up trying to make sense of this brewery’s design and verbiage (this beer’s name, the flying pig of the label), and surrendered to my sense of the surreal.
Appearance: hazy, pale apricottish color, with a sturdy collar of white foam.
Aroma: fresh and fruity, apricot, peach, a whiff of citrus, a mess of hops.
Taste: hops come first, a big, bold, buzzing bracket of them, blitzing the tongue and clinging to the palate. Those same fruity flavors recurr, also, ably matched with tasty malt. Hops never quit...body is medium, texture quit nice, ...finish is adequate, just so, quick and dry.
All in all, if I were a New Englander, I’d be quite satisfied if this was a barroom staple like SNPA is..nice session brew.
