Commercial Description:
Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast’s longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds with winter-weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows. In its darkened depths out inner voids are warmed. 12.0° Plato

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma was lightly sweet with chocolate, caramel, roasted malts and had a touch of earthiness. Flavor was roasty with coffee, light caramel a bit of chocolate and a hint of some nuttiness.

12 oz bottle. Gorgeous black pour with a frothy brown tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and faint bitter chocolate. Great dry taste of roasted malt, almonds, espresso and chocolate. Really great winter brew.

Appearance: Pours a rather dark brown body with a half inch layering of ecru foam that left a modicum of thin lacing on the way down. Smell: Predominately earthy nose with notes of roasty coffee, oven-toasted nuts, and baker’s chocolate. Taste: Roasted grains with a light sweetness and some slight a chicory flourish to it. Lesser hints of unsweetened chocolate and chopped walnuts. Spicy hops with just a touch of dried citrus lingering there as well. Light bitterness. Earthy, drying finish with a sustained taste of walnuts. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: All in all, it’s a decent, if average Schwarzbier. Nothing to Howl about, but nothing to thumb your nose at, either.

Serving: Draft. Appearance: Black with a foamy, off-white head. Okay head retention. Aroma: Lots of licorice in the nose. Slight roasted notes and perhaps a bit of coffee. Flavor: Roasty, not sweet, highlighted by notes of coffee, nuttiness, and perhaps a slight burnt note. Palate: Medium carbonation. A bit on the thin side, but it is easy to drink. Overall: Not my favorite within the style, but not a bad one to drink either.

The Pour is black with a off white med head. The head fades fast, but it was a pretty beer. The beer is med bodied, with a nice roasty malt flavor dominating. The hops are subtle. The side flavor is mostly a mocha from the malts. The finish is slower, and lingering. A very enjopyable beer.

A very dark brown, almost black, pour with a thin off-white head. It has a roasted malt aroma with chocolate and some caramel. The taste is lightly sweet with a lightly bitter, toasty finish. The body is light with a thin texture and little carbonation. Is Howl supposed to be scary? Because it is frightfully tame.

12oz bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a light tan two finger head that retains decently and some lacing. Aroma is sweet with a hint of roasted chocolate malt. The taste has a big coffee flavor with a slight hint of coco and a roasted malt backbone. Low carbonation makes it very smooth and rich.
