Commercial Description:
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

Purchased as part of the Participation Variety 12-Pak at Total Wine in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy, medium brown body with a thin layer of off-white head. Smell: Smokey, earthy peat nose with notes of caramel malt, aged lemon zest, roast (just a bit, though!) and fruits. Taste: Pale and caramel malts with a small hint of roast and bog peat. Fair amount of grillside smokiness. Light citrusy hops with a small amount of hop bitterness. Slight raisin and black cherry fruitiness. Some herbal hints come and go. Dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: It’s so-so, it’s okay, but geez, that label is a bit on the creepy side.

A fairly standard amber ale with some nice smokiness, but some issues as well. Amber color with a minimal head. The flavor is solid, some caramel and smoke, but the aftertaste has a very soapy, cleaning fluid, vaguely perfumey quality. A bit of an alcohol burn, which is neither a negative nor, in this case, much of a positive. What’s good is not original, and what’s original is not good.

Pours reddish brown with minimal head. Aroma is slightly smokey with roasty qualities of a dry stout. Flavor is much the same, with smokey aspects from prevalent.

bottle. Pours a dark amber with a fast-receding head. Aroma is heavy on caramel malt and dark fruit, I think I smelled alcohol in the aroma as well, which was off-putting given the low alcohol in this brew. Flavor is malty, with not too much going on here. Some faint spice traces, maybe even some roasts round out Jinx. Fairly tasty for Magic Hat, but palate could use some bolstering.

Greetings from Virginia. Brown with a fizzy white head. Brown sugar and molasses aroma. Thick rich citrus and molasses taste with a grainy finish.

Pours a clear copper with a beige head and some lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, earthy, dark fruits and light spices. Flavor is medium sweet cherry, earthy, nutty and some alcohol burning. Light to medium body. A very pleasant beer, can’t call it smoked however.

Brown with little head. I don’t get much smoke in the nose. The flavor is brown ale all the way, with syrup in the finish. Medium bodied and sweet. I expect more smoke in my smoked beers.
