Aroma of malts and nuts. Flavor was lightly smokey with caramel malts and a nuttiness and roastiness remiscient of a brown ale. Sort of like it can’t make up its mind if it wants to be a brown ale or a scottish ale. Not a bad little beer. SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA

A light touch of smoke, but not all together fitting with this type of beer. Palidor19 (1791), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2008 12 oz bottle, from the in-laws beer fridge. Pours a hazy dark ruby body under a one finger fizzy almost white head that faded quickly to a wispy film. The nose is just lightly smoky with some toasted malt below and a very light touch of hops. The flavor is actually more smoky than I expected from Magic Hat, not overpowering like Aecht beers, but it’s the centerpiece of the beer for sure. The finish brings out the sweeter toasted malt notes and a light bitterness. Lingering peat note that I wish were stronger, but still the dominant characteristic. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a watery texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, a nice Smoked for the masses, it’s a nice intro to the style, but probably not a huge draw for the hardcore Smoked beer lover like I am. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA
