Commercial Description:
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

Pours an auburn chestnut in color with a fluffy white head that dissipates rather quickly. Ringwood fruity aroma with some lightly toasted cereal malt. Sweet caramel malts are delightfully intertwined with maple syrup, apples, some delicate hops with a smoky tang. A little apple cider quality. Very nice.

Pours a chocolate walnut with a generous off-white soapy head that immediately begins to ring the glass with lace. There are some doughy notes to the nose, as well as some sweet malt and chocolate. Some decent malt upfront, with a hidden sweetness inside of a smoked, slightly roasted atmosphere. The finish still has a bit of that Magic Hat salt acridity to it... not terribly bad, though. It works ok enough, I guess. Nothing particularly special about this brew. The mouthfeel is round, but it doesn’t have the true "winter" seasonal feel that it’s touted for..... more of a maltier peat-induced marzen or bock that works for spring months... Again, nothing terrible, but not my session of choice.

One bottle from the 12pk my brother Ed gave me for my birthday. Deep Amber/Ruby color, decent head, minimal lacing. Stouty, Malty sweet, some caramel, maybe maple. Smokiness is well balanced. Very good.

Sampled at Real Beer Expo (Rochester). Nice deep reddish-brown colour with a decent head that fades fast. Sweet, caramel, malty nose. Sweet and malty in the mouth. Fairly carbonated and a decent full mouthfeel. Balanced with limited hop presence.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 7 Oct) Dark amber colour with mahogany notes. Fruity nose with dark fruit, raisins, figs, caramel, notes of chocolate and smokey hints of rubber. Fruity taste with dark fruit, figs, dates, caramel, hints of chocolate and some balanced bitterness in the finish. Nice and warming, but lacking something extra.

Tap: dark amber, good lacing. Aroma is like an IPA, very fruity with grapefruit, some caramel backing. I didn’t get any smoke notes, I think if I looked for it I might find them, but it certainly wasn’t obvious. I was trying to figure out if this was an APA or an IPA.. LOL. It’s still pretty tasty.. but nothing like oh... Aecht Schlenkerla beers...

(draft @ The Real Beer Expo - Rochester, NY) Dark copper color with not much head. Aroma is light but has some smoked malts, cookie dough, and some hops. Not much smoke though. Flavor has a very subtle smoked malt taste at the beginning that disappears and leaves a very nice and smooth malt flavor. Very doughy at the end with a clean finishing malt flavor. Alcohol is hidden well.

12 oz bottle. Brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma of light crystal malt brown bread and a touch of molasses. Earthy herbal hop aroma with a soft berry fruitiness. Warming brings up the caramelly/bready malts even more. Some deep sweet herbal notes play off of the sweet earthy maltiness. Nice refreshing ale.
