| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2006 Very reddish brown with a foamy head and nice lacing. Brown sugar and raisins in the nose. Chocolate (malt) in the palate provides much of the sweetness. The smoked essence is a nice counter to the sweet in the palate. This has a German quality to it, bockish, with the sweetness and minimal hops. Thanks Ron for the trade! TheBeerGod (3167), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 15, 2006 Bottle. Translucent auburn. Small but seemingly fizzt tan head. It’s reduced to a ring of foam within seconds. Nose is faint smoky notes, burnt caramel, malt, and a touch of toffee. Some light spicy hops as well. Taste is restrained smokiness, roasty malts, some caramel, light spicy hops and dark fruits. Body is light-medium with a medium carbonation feeling on the palate. Finishes with more smokiness, caramel, bit sweeter malts, and some Bit-O-Honey. I think this would pair nicely with a glazed ham or a ham sandwich. MrAndo (39), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Oct 13, 2006 on tap at McHaffey’s, a good beer, not much on the aroma, average small light head, taste is a nice balence of toffee caramel, and hops. Not as hoppy as most magic hat beers, witch was a nice surprize for me. this is a nice easy drinking beer, but i wish i could have tasted the smoke, it wasn’t really there. cbrixius (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 10, 2006 From bottle straight from the brewery and their cool tour. Also sampled while there. The aroma wasn’t anything special. It poured a smokey amber with a slight haze and it had a nice creamy head. Flavoring was pretty good with smoke light smoky aftertaste balanced with a nice bittering. Nice medium to dark character. Overall a slightly above average brew from an average brewer. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Draught sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Reddish-brown body with a wispy head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and earthy smoke. Body is thin. Flavour is OK, but a bit blander than the aroma suggests. It opens up a bit as it warms, with some malt and tobacco notes, but not a lot of smokiness. Meh. Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2006 Dark rusty red/brown with a pleasant activity and 1/2-inch rocky head. Earthy/fruity aroma. The flavor is almost reminiscent of dirty berries. Quite smooth and pleasant. Surprised to see this listed as a smoke beer. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 3, 2006 12 oz bottle from Trooper11. Dark amber with a slight white head. Nose is mildly earthy, with a mere wisp of smoke. Caramelly malts in the flavor, a bit of the aforementioned earthiness, and another tiny wisp of smoke. What is this, training wheels for a rauchbier? Anyway, pretty drinkable, but boring beer. oh6gdx (9047), Vasa, Finland
