muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 5, 2008 12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (December 2007), served a little above fridge temperature from a Ramstein weizen glass. A decent bubbly-smooth light tan head covers the darkly translucent maple body, dying quite slowly, leaving minimal residue in the glass....nose is sour wheaty mash, and not in a good way; it’s like bread rising and something’s going wrong with it, unpleasant and almost gag-inducing, I’m afraid to actually taste it....well, it’s not as bad as the aroma would have made me guess it would be, but it’s hardly any better, sour and artificial and characterized by a spoiled grapiness and very heavy mineralic quality at the finish....dreadful, drain pour, possibly the brewery’s worst product yet. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s. Burnt sienna pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma is dark malty, with some nutmeggy X-mas spices, hops, and peaty yeasty notes. Tastes malty, with a decent hop bill, some spices, and some toffee. jcwattsrugger (4045), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jan 20, 2008 12oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head and copper color. Aroma is mild medium/dark malt-chocolate/toffee, some fruit, earthy hops. Taste is husky medium/dark malt, secondary earthy/some spicy/metallic hops, some dark fruit, nuttiness. A marzen/OK and funky yeast/vegetal. OK/mild carbonation. JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 15, 2007 1L growler. Amber-coloured brew with a thick white head. Aroma of light banana and clove. Very wheaty with a bit of sweet toasted caramel. A chewy and lightly candyish sweetness. Some flavour of cotton candy, light caramel and banana. A soft herbal bitterness, but nowhere near what I was expecting based on the ratings. Lingering caramel and nutty malts. It’s a bit strange, but not unpleasant.
