Taste is of burnt toast, chocolate, and coffee, with a slightly bitter hop aftertaste. Pours more brown then red with a little bit of beige head. Kudos for the smoked, cocoa-like aroma. It was quite pleasing on the nose. Medium mouthfeel and bold. Flavor is sweet, malty, lightly spiced, and even a little fruity. It is complex but it is quite a likeable brew. Very complex, but a bit watery for my taste. Still not bad, but I am glad I got this in the variety back instead of six. Aroma is lightly spicey with notes of cardamon and roast malts. Floral and fruity flavors with lots of cardamon. Lightly carbonated. Finish is moderatly dry with some lingering floral and spicey flavors. The spice in an Irish Red is a bit unorthodox but interesting anyway.
