Sammy (2936), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 15, 2008 On-tap at the brewery. Dark colour with soapy mocha head. Licorice aroma, rather plain. Similar to a porter. The rauch is very understated.
nick76 (1918), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 The aroma is roasted with malt, caramel, yeast, nut, and chocolate. The appearance is light brown with and average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s good to drink but it’s not that special. mcox90 (296), Wilton, New Hampshire, USA Jun 29, 2008 12 oz bottle from the summer variety pack. Pours a mahogany color with a receding off white head. Nose is faint caramel & malt. Thin, dry mouthfeel. A bit on the light side. Could have used a bit more body. Flavor was caramel, malt & grains, albeit all on the mild side, very mild. It was ok. hershiser2 (845), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. Brown with a very small head. Smells of newspaper, cardboard, and some nuts. Flavor of slight caramel malts and some bland grassiness. Blah. MrBunn (771), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 14, 2008 Bottle. Pour is a brown color with reddish highlights and a fairly big head. Aromas are kind of boozy with some wet cardboard and a bit of a bock side to them... Flavor is a strange mix of wet cardboard, sawdust, nuts and brown sugar. Nice but fairly plain and a little watery. muzzlehatch (4422), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 6, 2008 12 ounce bottle from the summer variety pack, purchased at City Market in Burlington, VT (June 2008) and sampled at cellar temperature from a Samuel Smith glass. A big fizzy faintly tan head disappears rapidly above the translucent dark walnut body....nose is strongly nutty, sugary, somewhat loamy/earthy....simple malty-sweet body is pretty tasty with notes of molasses and vanilla, but the too-thin body isn’t supportive enough and it all peters out too quickly. Just OK.
