Commercial Description:
For Over 200 years people have been discussing politics & solving the country's problems over a pint of ale at the local tavern. PARTICIPATION is a nut brown ale inspired by this tradition. This social lubricant is designed to act as a catalyst for public discourse during the political season.

Toffee and caramel aroma abounds. Very sweet smelling and a decent, though not great, maltiness to the palate. Can taste hint of cashews and dry roasted peanuts.

Less than sophisticated, but more than tolerable, this brew poured an amber color with a light foamy head, tasting slightly of sweet caramel with a touch of butterscotch.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear amber color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet malty aroma. Medium body. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

I found a half case of this stuff hidden in the cooler at the beer store I work at. Bottle reads best before Dec 04. Chocolate malt aroma light notes of alcohol/gasoline. Mabie some skunk. Dark amber color with not much foam. Coffee and chocolate taste with a light amount of bitterness. Watery palate. If this beer was a little more thick it would be a great brown ale even after sitting for three years.

Found in the back of mu fridge aned consumed 11/12/05. Pours brown (DUH!) with a light tan head. Smells nutty with some sugar and mellow hops. Taste is peppery with some chocolate and walnut notes.

(22 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Eyedrinkale, thanks Mike!) This is a well-aged bottle from my cellar, it should have been consumed eleven months ago, but it’s still in fine shape. Of course, the reminder for me to vote on November 2nd, 2004 is of little value now, but I voted anyway. To me, this beer is on the border between a brown ale and a porter. Initially, the beer is fairly roasty, moderately bitter, and only lightly sweet, but the finish is nutty, quite ashy with vague hints of molasses. Lightly aromatic nose shows some roast and that’s about it. Dry on the palate, the beer has the creamy mouthfeel of oats, yet it also comes across as a bit watery. Dark ruddy brown in color; I think it’s darker than mahogany. The light tan head pours to about an inch in height, but it’s a little fizzy and thus settles quickly to a patchy film encircled by a wide ring. Certainly more roasty than most nut brown ales, but I’m not sure it’s more flavorful, or even all that much better. I still enjoyed every drop in this bomber though.
