Draft. Pours a brown body with an off white head. Roasty, toffee, caramel malt, nutty with a light vanilla almond character. Not bad.

The first time I had this beer, I was still under 21. It’s been a while, but the taste is familiar. Pours a dark, burnt red. Excellent vanilla aroma that smells almost chocolately, as paradoxical as it sounds. Tastes very good, roasted, nutty vanilla... though a bit on the watery side which really drops its rating. Very good brew, could have been far better though.

2004 bottle brought out at BA tasting. a dark brown pour that is a bit hazy and topped with a thin tan head. aroma is fantastic... whole vanilla beans, malt powder, wood, a little chocolate and some bourbon-y caramel qualities which i believe to be oxidation. vanilla bean is all over the flavor... it’s combined with scalded cream, woodiness like a vanilla pod, chocolate/malt, a strange sour quality and an ashy smoky finish. the sourness comes through hard once it is noted and pretty much ruins the brew. light bodied with a watery mouth feel. i suppose this wasn’t so bad considering the abv% (4.8) and the fact that it is four years old... thanks dana.

On draft at Capones, A really good chocolate aroma. Dark pour with serious vanilla, chocolate and very mild hop flavors. This was an odd but enjoyable brew.

Draught: Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, cream, and roasted malts. Poured dark black with a medium-sized, very foamy, milk chocolate colored brown head that lasted throughout. Medium sweet flavor. Excellent lacing. Tastes of vanilla, cream, chocolate, licorice, and roasted malts. Medium body. Watery texture. Average carbonation. Sweet vanilla/roasted malt finish. A nice porter.
