Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 20, 2008 In short: A very fruity, very tart and very refreshing light blonde beer. Good summer thirst quencher.
How: Tap at Ginger Man NYC
The look: Cloudy blonde-yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Fruity nose with a little farmhouse character along with flower petals. Attack is very soft but soon followed a avalanche of fruits (pineapples, peaches, kiwis, more…) and alfalfa sprouts. Medium sourness and medium tartness. Strong astringency. Body is a bit on the thin side. Give it a bigger more nourishing body and this would be a killer.
Additional Information: I add Magic Hat Odd Notion twice in the past month. Once At the Vermont Brewers Festival where people are entering their ratings as a “Berliner Weisse Odd Notion” and now at Gingerman where people are entering their ratings as “Summer Draft Odd Notion (Sour Ale)”. The pint I had at Gingerman was just a slightly more intense version of the sample I had at Vermont Brewers Festival. Could be the conditioning or sampler vs full pint, but I’m not convinced these are two different beers and maybe the entries should be combined. Nor am I convince that Dick Cheney and the evil Emperor from Star Wars are two different persons.
Rciesla (1571), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Nov 20, 2008 Draft. Pours a light golden body. Lightly sour cherry, grapefruit flavor, a vinous note and then malty sweetness. eh. Lubiere (3524), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2008 A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. Light lactic aroma with not much character, Rather bland and lifeless ale, with a bit of cherries. Not impressed. On tap at Vermont Brewers Fest 2008, July 19, 2008. Rastacouere (5421), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 29, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A surprisingly poor offering staying miles away from their anti oxidant.
I like:
Refreshing in its simplicity as well as taste.
I dislike:
Is there wheat at all in there, it seems like it would fit. Really limited sourness though there’s a fair balsamic character. I don’t get much grapefruit at all, slightly citric, perhaps, but seems more geared towards berries. Too sweet to be all that pleasant.
Ron (789), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 Draft at McGregor’s. Golden pour with a small white head. Fruity aroma. Light and thin brew, but alittle to sour for my taste. DocLock (4175), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 4, 2008 Draft at Capone’s. Copper colored with minimal off-white head. Nose is vinous red winey fruit, balsamic vinegary, and earthy notes. Taste had some cherry, red winey, and sour mashy notes, with a watery palate and an overall lack of complexity.
