beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Jun 25, 2005 Bottle at noog. Black pour with tan head. Nice chocolately roasty coffee aroma. Nice rich malty body, with chocolate, roasted coffee, raisins, some alcohol notes. Nice body, not too syrupy, but not thin either. Solid imp stout.
Rciesla (1571), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Dec 25, 2008 Draft and growler serving some time in 2007 when i day tripped up to the brewery. I was told the etoh was closer to 11-12% and what i was drinking was in the barrel close to 4 years. One beer not to be taken lightly. This colossal imperial stout poured like black ink with a tin dark brown lacing that quickly dissipated. Huge dark chocolate malt and bourbon in the nose. Even more so in the taste with a big warming alcohol character and some light vanilla. Viscous on the boarder of syrupy. This beer is awesome and a favorite of mine. bgburdman9 (747), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 24, 2008 An old rating i finally got to entering. 2004 sample. Aroma of a lot of bourbon and chocolate. Aroma of soy sauce also. Slightly like triple bock but i think i liked triple bock better. smashteroid (172), USA Mar 30, 2008 I had one or two 5oz. samples of this at a beer convention, and it has stuck in my mind as being the finest beer that Magic Hat ever brewed. It was served cold from a tap, and it was really thin and black with no head. definite chocolate, malts and maybe some added aroma from the barrels of oak or bourbon...not sure which. While certainly not being the best bourbon-aged imperial I have tried, it was definitely memorable for the sweetness of the chocolate combined with the alcohol. I think the warmth of the alcohol made it seem creamier than it appeared to be. Overall a fine beer now sadly retired. Right? It’s retired? I went on a tour of the brewery and they said it was... franksnbeans (265), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours out like engine oil with a chocolate milk head. Smells of molassas, chocolate, maple syrup and caramel. Taste is mild and sweet. The flavors are the same as the nose with a very minimal bitter finish. Medium in the mouth and smooth as silk. A sipper but could sip this all night.
yobdoog (414), Montclair NJ - Woodridge NY, New York, USA Nov 28, 2007 Sampled during Manhattan Blind IS Tasting: Very rich, smooth with lots of alcohol. A bit creamy which is nice. Sweet and heavy. Pretty nice considering I have wanted to try this for some time. I wish this was available more but I guess thats what makes it so special.
