Commercial Description:
This is a full-bodied porter, one step away from being a stout. Black in color, full of sharp black malt bitterness and a hint of roast barley, Cole Porter also bursts forth with a surprising hop aroma and flavor.

Tasting Notes from Fall 2000: A stouty porter, good flavor, more bitterness than normal. Quite a treat

Hand-pulled cask at the brewpub in San Francisco. Deepest chestnut, almost black, with a thin tan coloured ring of a head. Smokey chocolate aroma, mouthwatering! Soft medium mouthfeel, faint woodsmokiness, chocolate, nuts, and a mildly bitter finish. Delicious!

Black with a creamy tan head. Nice chocolate molasses and roasted grain aroma. Rich chocolate flavor with a creamy mouth feel and buttery roasty notes. Good.

Cask @ Magnolia. Pitch black, pale malt flavor before a sharp coffee note. Sweet nuts and berries in the nose. I like it.

Extremely dark. Vanilla roast nose. Smooth--but I had the cask version, offered side-by-side with the regular. Smoke driven in flavor, very much like a BBQ grill, some tobacco, chocolate. Interesting, but, dare I say it, too overpowering in some flavors? (on cask at brewpub)

Had the cast at the brewery. Rich and full. Black with a dark tan head. Very smooth chocolate bitter finish. Very easy drinking beer. This was my favorite there. A must try.
