Commercial Description:
Our tribute to Cologne’s unique, crisp, golden ale/lager hybrid. We start with German malt and hops and tie it all together with a true Kolsch yeast from Cologne to impart some subtle fruit and wine flavors while producing the smoothness of a lager. Served in an authentic Kolsch stange to enchance the crisp, cool, effervescence of this thirst-quenching beer. Malts: German pilsner, Munich and wheat Hops: German Spalt and Hersbrucker

Sampled during RBSG 7/9/2009 on tap at the brewpub. This kolsch pours a medium gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is cereal and grain, fruit and sweet. A medium bodied kolsch. The malts are fruity, cerealy and sweet. The hops are slightly spicy. Nice kolsch, perhaps a touch sweet, but good flavor. Nice summer beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Tap at the brewpub: Cloudy yellow with a fading whtie head. Sulfuric aroma- dimethyl-sulfide, a bit off. Light and crisp body. The flavor has a crisp grainy presence. Some fruity sweetness of pear and a light honey background. Clean finish with little bitterness. Decent, despite the off aromatics.

On tap at Magnolia. Poured into a cylinder glass, a finger of head atop a clear pale body. Light sweet malt and floral hops on the nose. Grainy malt taste, floral hops, mild fruitiness, subtle tartness. Great carbonation, drying and prickly but not too bubbly. Refreshing and smooth, light body, extremely easy to drink.
