Commercial Description:

Our tribute to the most famous tenant of our historic building is brewed in September for a February 1st release (kicking off our annual Strong Beer Month). A little hoppy to truly be an English-style barleywine, Old Thunderpussy nevertheless uses all English ingredients and is built around a big, bold Maris Otter taste accented by East Kent Goldings hops. A slightly warmer fementation coaxes out an additional dimension of fruitiness.

Malts: Maris Otter; crystal, Munich, brown
Hops: Challenger; East Kent Goldings
Food Pairings: strong cheeses including Stilton and other blues, intense cheddars, aged goat cheeses

How do you not like a barley wine with this name? Well, I guess you don't have to, but I did. Nice brown color smooth as my girl friends ThunderP*ssy.

dark amber & clear with sweet molassis melted into pine needles with a fruity background of cherries & pineapple...it was watery at first with a sweet and bitter hop battle upon the tongue..thickening the mouthfeel...subtle sweet pine cake with solid but balanced bitterness...the main problem i had with this beer was the lack of creamy body..definitely needs a year or 3 to age.

Dark amber color. Small head. Aroma is malty, sweet and fruity. A medium bodied barleywine. Malts are nutty and sweet. Hops are spicy. Nicely balanced. Very smooth taste. Touches of orange and vanilla. Nice beer, but the salty finish kind of ruins everything else. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and salty.

Sampled @ Strong Ale Fest San Diego

As it set in my sample glass, an unblurred brown or deep mahogany if you’re so inclined with a smallish light tan head, that was spumous in texture, the lace quite thin. Nose was sweet malt with hints of fusel alcohol, caramel, pleasant as noses go with the start quite sweet and malt laden and the top moderate in feel. Finish had a lenient carbonation, the hops purposeful in their spiciness, quite dry and somewhat salty aftertaste, drinkable but not a great barleywine as one would expect from the “Name”!

Copper brew that looked to have all things going for it. Beautiful appearance and nose.Sweet malty front but had an undrinkable salty finish.

What a nice name this brew brings with it. Actually pretty damn good for a barleywine. Wasn't over jagered in the flavor, kinda smooth and hid the alcohol well. Not bad at all.

Tap @ Toronado Barley Wine Festival. Woody, vinous, and bitter with a weird aftertaste. Brewed with all English malt and aged for 5 months.
