lunaticharness (183), Roseville, Michigan, USA Mar 5, 2004 very astringent alcohol flavor that seemed to become medicinal the warmer it got, very bitter and seemed to need alot of time to age to mellow out this factor, very young and immature to say the least about a barleywine, very bitter sweet
goldtwins (3755), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 18, 2008 Tap @ Magnolia for 2008 SBM. Poured a deep hazed golden brown color with a beige head. The aroma is thick with notes of raisin pulp (is that what you call the middle of them?). It smelled like a box of Sun Maid. The flavor was of raisins and sweet malt. Medium bodied. ratman197 (2548), Arvada, Colorado, USA Feb 14, 2008 On tap @ Magnolia poured a nearly opaque dark brown with a lasting amber headf. Aromas of carmel, dark fruiut and biscuit. Palate was medium b odied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, bitter chocolate and a hint of fruitiness with a smooth moderatly bitter finish. wetherel (1217), Encinitas, California, USA Feb 11, 2008 Wooohoo. Great to try a beer with this name (and it’s over 10% too!). Tried on tap at Magnolia pub during strong ale month. Great pub/restaurant. Creamy microbubble head. Deep red color. Sweet. Alcohol well hidden. Delicious. bb (2320), Martinez, California, USA Mar 20, 2007 Draft. Mahogony/bronze beer with a nice beige head. Caramel, malty, earthy aroma. Sweet caramel malt with backing earthiness. Lingering earthy malt. Fuller bodied. MI2CA (1101), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Feb 21, 2007 4oz sample in a full size tulip at brewery - Aroma of prunes, plums, raisin, alcohol and earty hops. Pours deep mahogony with a small head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma with strong alcohol and a deep fruitiness. The hops shine a little too brightly for my tastes. Palate is tart and sticky. A really nice barleywine I’d love to have with a little age on it. Very tasty none the less.
