ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 There is a really rich flavor profile to this beer. It is well balanced between all the components, yet has a smokiness the permeates and cuts through the roasty flavors. It begins with chocolate, toffee and a slight yeastiness, and ends somewhat dry, smoky and slightly bitter. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 1, 2007 (On tap) Black and opaque with a light brown head. Burned, malty aromas with a touch of malt. Medium-bodied with roasted or even lightly burned malt notes and again a touch of salt. Some malty bitterness. 210307 GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 24, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Poured an opaque black color. Head was tan and settled quickly, but left some decent lace. Attractive aroma of roasty malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Dry on the tongue with a big roasty/smoky flavor reminiscent of peated malt. There was also some dark chocolate. Unique, delicious stout.
