smcd (366), USA Mar 20, 2006 There was nothing wrong with this experimental beer -- and it was as good as any other poor richards I tried and likely better than anything ol’ Ben ever drank. Sweet, malty, molasses aromas and a heavy presence of corn and some DMS. Some higher alcohols slightly noticible. Chocolate notes in the taste and, of course, CORN! But, corn was probably used in ales of the period (the degree to which being some matter of debate -- but Thomas Jefferson indicates that he, himself, was experimenting with ALL CORN recipies). Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Feb 21, 2006 Very dark brown colour. Mainly chocolate and molasses in the aroma. Sweet, some pleasing dark malt character but also corn notes, fusels. Could be good but get rid of the damn corn. omhper (12154), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 15, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Black, very small head. Nutmeg aroma. Sweet with lightly mellow mouthfeel. Aromatic soapy notes, plenty of nutmeg. Some herbal bitterness.
