Pours transparent copper with a bubbly head and great lacing. Palate is crisp, tart and cask creamy. I just love really big hop monsters on cask and this did not dissapoint. Aroma of cascade pine hops. Chewy oily mouthfeel, all hops in the taste with a lasting bitter finish. This is a take no prisoners NW hop IPA -- great if you like the style, undrinkable if you don’t. I’ll be back for more. luvcasks (178), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Tried the tap version... was hoping to try the cask conditioned version - Part of the strong beer of the month
Aroma: Nice citrus like hop aroma
Appearance: Loverly amber color...
Flavor: I seem to seek malt balance for such big beers... for an Imperial IPA newbie... I loved the malt character to support the intense hoppiness
Palate: For Magnolia, I though it was too cold which may be accentuating the dry finish
Overall: Amongst the Imperial IPAs tried I like this one since it has a lot of character and does not beat me down with hoppy bitterness aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA
